Yesterday
I opened the bedroom door
and a penguin ran across the floor
The air conditioner was on all day,
he thought this was an invitation
To leave webbed footprints
on the bed
and fish heads in the drawers
When he noticed me,
he stuck his tongue out
and headed for the hall!
Today
I turned the air conditioner off,
(Though it rose to ninety-six)
that penguin I would fix!
But when I went to change my clothes
An iguana was on my bed
"Oh!, the nerve of you," I said
"leaving mealy bugs on my rug
and shedding scales on the chairs!"
But all he did,
was tip his hat and say,
"Thanks for the use of the room!"
So tomorrow
I’ll put the thermostat
at a more temperate zone
and hope no one is in my room
When I return home.
